Those are my “words to live by” for 2017!
I thought about it for a while before those phrases came to me, but, when they did, it was as if an enormous lightbulb was lit and was shining on me. I felt an even larger dose of motivation than I had before (and I am motivated, believe me) but now I see things a little differently. Perhaps it’s the turning of the calendar and seeing a brand new year in front of me. That may have something to do with it, granted, but I am also at a point of understanding more about what I want from my career as an actress than ever.
I bring more to the acting table now.
Than ever. I am at a point in life that I can be cast as a mom, a stylish grandmom, a Cougar type or a middle-aged woman in a romantic comedy. The door is wide open in lots of ways and my ability spans the categories from comedy to drama to thrillers to sci-fi – so that’s a big advantage. I can take on many different roles and love every one.
What I’m wanting…
Good roles. Ones that showcase my talent, even if they are smaller roles initially, and ones that I feel great about when I’m done. I’m not going to be typecast, that’s for sure. I’m “young” at 59, and I’ve kept myself in the same physical shape that I was in when I was in my teens. It’s not that hard actually. It’s more about not letting yourself get too far away from that and from that standpoint it may be difficult, but, once you find what works you simply stay with it!
And so I’m not interested in competing with 20-somethings or 30-somethings. I don’t have to do that as far as I’m concerned. I’ve got my own style and my own brand of beauty and I have more of some things now than I had in my 20s and 30s so it’s not true at all that we have “less” as we age. That is simply a negative way of thinking that I’m also working to reduce if not eliminate in my lifetime.
I have just sent off my info for a casting that could be fun and interesting. There are always castings coming to me, most every day, and the larger part of them I skip over as they aren’t right for me. As I mentioned, I’m a bit out of the norm at this point in life.
Comedy is appealing to me most of all perhaps. I have a good sense of humor and my timing is there and I can ad-lib if necessary. I can play the mom or the grandmom but again it’s got to be the right placement for me. I can be a Demi Moore or a Rachel Weisz type just fine, so I do need to have the role be for a woman who looks like either one of those actresses.
Future of my work as an actress.
I am very optimistic here. I’ve done quite a bit in the last year or so. I had my first modeling shoot in some time, and landed roles in two productions. I turned down quite a few others, by the way, so if I had wanted to have more I would have – instead I’ve chosen quality over quantity.
Last July I created a Facebook page dedicated to my acting and as of right now I’ve got 52K likes. I am very proud and honored and just bowled over by that!
This year is already bringing me a good feeling about what’s in store. I’ve got my plans together to make my own YouTube videos, which I will start out once per week and go forward from there. Look for a good variety of subjects, and of course I’ll be making them fun and as interesting as possible. If you follow me on YouTube you shouldn’t be bored – don’t worry about that!
THANK YOU to everyone who follows my work online and who has given me such beautiful feedback! You are a big part of what keeps me motivated!
Much love out to all!
